Personal feed back and review from Andy Plant
I have been training with Master Liming for about 22 years and across that period I have had the good fortune to be taught by Master Liming, in class, in seminars and I have also had numerous private lessons with Master Liming .
On November 22 I took a 400 mile round trip to Edinburgh for private lessons with Master Liming Yue. These were the first private lessions for sometime due to the restrictions associated with Covid 19.
With the choice of what to cover in the lesson I decided to concentrate on the first section of the 83 form and in particular posture/body alignment and internal energy flow in the tai chi posture.
After finishing the first section of the form Master Liming listed the things that I needed to concentrate on to improve my tai chi practice.
In brief these were:
- Head up and chin in
- Shoulder and hip coordination – not leading with either
- Fullness – outward expansion to the extremities
- Keeping the frame
- Dantian rotation
The reasons for the corrections were explained in a clear and concise way with some good analogies to make the understanding easier.
The corrections of my posture in the tai chi stance are difficult to explain but the results I felt are slightly easier as follows:
- More rooted
- More relaxed
- A greater feeling of the body being connected physically
- Increased energy flow
- Greater awareness of the energy flow
- Internal heat generation
- Profuse perspiration
It is great that the lessons are recorded as they are a brilliant reference tool about how your form really looks rather than what you think it looks like which is often quite different.
Also the recording serves as a reminder of all that was discussed in the lesson this helps me to concentrate on the corrections that Master Liming gave because that is what I need to improve and work towards going up a level.
Hopefully some more lessons towards the end of February 23 and hopefully I will have improved.
